The Story

Laurentia ‘Blue Star’, also known as Isotoma axillaris, is a charming, low-growing annual prized for its abundance of delicate, star-shaped flowers in soft lavender-blue. Blooming continuously through the warmer months, it brings a fine, airy texture and a cool-toned palette to borders, rockeries and containers. Its finely divided, fern-like foliage provides an attractive backdrop, creating a light and graceful presence in any garden setting.

Laurentia is ideal for edging paths, softening the front of borders, or spilling gently over container edges. It performs well in mixed plantings, offering a subtle contrast to bolder summer flowers. Despite its delicate appearance, it is a tough, heat-tolerant plant that thrives in full sun and well-drained soil.

Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them carefully into individual pots, then harden off and plant out after the last frost. Space plants 20–25 cm apart. Laurentia prefers full sun, and although drought-tolerant once established, it benefits from regular watering during dry spells. Deadheading spent blooms encourages continuous flowering.

Surface Sow: Requires light to germinate. Sow seed on the surface. Press seed down into the soil. Keep moist.
