Heirloom tomato varieties are renowned for their exceptional flavours, diverse colours, and unique shapes that add a touch of artistry to any garden or culinary creation. Experience first-hand the legacy of these time-honoured cultivars that have been lovingly preserved and passed down through generations for their exceptional qualities of colour, taste and reliability
Our Heirloom Tomatoes collection has been carefully curated to include the best of our heirloom varieties suitable for sowing in the spring and harvesting throughout the late summer and early autumn. Each heirloom tomato variety tells a story of agricultural traditions and the art of seed saving.
Heirloom varieties are older than two generations (50 years), are always open-pollinated (natural cross), so there will be some natural variability between plants, and you are able to save the seed yourself if you wish. Can also be referred to as "heritage".
Our Seed Collections have been created to contain some of our most well-loved varieties and to take the guesswork out of making seed selections for yourself. Also fabulous as a gift for the gardeners in your life or those new to growing. For individual growing requirements for each of the varieties that make up this Seed Collection, please refer to the specific product information given for that variety.
Sowing Heirloom Tomatoes
Begin sowing heirloom tomatoes during spring once soil warmth increases and frost risk passes. Start seeds in trays filled with free-draining mix, placing containers in warm sheltered positions. Transplant seedlings outdoors after hardening off once strong growth appears.
Caring for Heirloom Tomatoes
Regular watering supports steady development throughout fruiting periods. Keep heirloom tomato plants in sunny locations to encourage flavour development and healthy vine growth. Staking or trellising maintains airflow while reducing fruit contact with soil surfaces.
Use for Heirloom Tomatoes
Fresh heirloom tomato harvests are perfect for salads, sandwiches and seasonal cooking, where the distinct colours, shapes and flavours elevate dishes. Homegrown heirloom tomatoes add depth of flavour to sauces, preserves and roasting dishes.
