The Story

Bunny Tail Grass is an ornamental grass with soft, fluffy white flower heads reminiscent of bunny tails. A great fresh cut flower, and even better in dried arrangements. Bunny Tail Grass can also be great in borders or containers. Sow directly en masse for a great effect in late spring, lightly covering the seed.

Bunny Tail Grass was originally native to the Mediterranean but is now found worldwide, including on the many sand dunes around New Zealand. Will self seed if allowed to, but not regarded as a weed as it is easily controlled.

Sowing Bunny Tail Grass
Sow seed directly outdoors during late spring once soil temperatures rise. Light soil coverage will encourage germination while allowing light penetration. Even distribution across the prepared ground will support a uniform display of the grass.

Caring for Bunny Tail Grass
Moderately water during early establishment stages before roots settle. Well-drained sites prevent moisture stress during warmer months. Minimal feeding maintains natural form without excessive leaf growth.

Use for Bunny Tail Grass
Floristry applications often use fresh stems for seasonal displays. Dried flower heads also retain their texture, colour and shape for long-lasting arrangements. Garden landscapes also look stunning with displays of Bunny Tail Grass across borders and containers.
