Also known as Korean sesame leaf (not to be confused with Shiso a different variety of Perilla). A flavourful herb in the mint family, prized in Asian cuisine for its aromatic, slightly spicy and citrusy leaves. Often used in salads, sushi, pickles and tempura. Sow in spring after frost.
Perilla also attracts pollinators and adds ornamental appeal to gardens.
Stratify: Chilling seeds in the fridge for 2-3 weeks prior to sowing will promote germination by breaking seed dormancy.
Surface Sow: Requires light to germinate. Sow seed on the surface. Press seed down into the soil. Keep moist.
