$1.21The Story
Amazing rainbow-coloured flintcorn that can be ground for flour, popped for popcorn or hung up to dry with its husks pulled back for a beautiful display. Tall growing plants with multi tillers from the base. Expect 3-5 cobs per plant, each cob unique.
Planting Glass Gem Corn
Sow seed directly into warm soil once frost danger has passed from September to November.
Choose a sunny, sheltered site with fertile ground enriched with compost before planting.
Spacing Glass Gem Corn
Allow approximately 20 centimetres between plants within each row. Leave 60 centimetres between rows to provide room for tall stems and airflow. Adequate spacing supports strong root systems and reduces competition for nutrients.
Maintaining Glass Gem Corn
Keep soil consistently moist during active growth, especially while cobs are forming. Apply mulch around bases to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Tall stalks may also benefit from shelter in exposed areas to prevent lodging during strong winds.
Harvesting Glass Gem Corn
Harvest Glass Gem corn once the stalks and husks are dry and brown. Glass Gem Corn will generally reach maturity after 100 days from direct sowing. Pull back husks and hang cobs in a dry, airy space to cure thoroughly before shelling. Properly dried grain stores well for milling, popping or decorative use.
