The Story

Fabulous mix of almost every possible shape and colour of China Asters. One of the most popular flowers for cutting or stunning as a background planting. Asters need good soil and prefer full sun. This aster assortment has a wide colour range and varied blooms that perform well in many summer gardens. Never plant China Asters in the same soil twice.

Asters are day-length sensitive, and plants will flower after the longest day has passed. The reducing day length after the solstice signals the plant to stop growing taller and start producing blooms. It is therefore best to give adequate time for the plant to reach maximum height prior to the solstice for longer stems.

Don’t bury seeds too deeply; lightly cover with soil or vermiculite.

Sowing Asters
Sow seed during spring once soil temperatures begin to rise. Use the transplant method and place aster seeds into a fine seed-raising mix and cover lightly to allow easy emergence. Maintain consistent moisture until seedlings establish healthy growth. Once large enough and frost risk has passed, young seedlings can be planted outdoors.

Caring for Asters
Allow asters to get full sun as exposure supports sturdy stems and vibrant colour development. Maintain soil with good drainage for strong growth and to reduce diseases. Avoid replanting asters in previous beds to minimise soil-borne issues.

Uses of Asters
Asters are perfect as cut flowers with long, straight stems that are perfect for bouquets and floral arrangements. Asters are also good for garden borders as their height and colour add a nice touch to the garden.
